Dear All the Children of Earth,
Hi! My name is Angel. This is me!
I’m a baby bottle-nose dolphin from Japan. I was born all white, which makes me different from other dolphins! I can’t hear or see but I can feel my mom touch me and she leads me around the ocean. My mom protects me and helps me find food! She’s the best mom ever! My family and I have a great life! We talk about everything, play games together, eat together, and go everywhere together. I love my family so much! My cousins are my best friends! Here we all are! We’re a pretty big happy family!
Me, Mom, Dad, and everyone. I have to touch my mom alot to find my way.
Did you know that dolphin parents name their babies? We all have names! Our parents make up individual sounds that are just for us! Did your mommy and daddy give YOU a name? What is your name? Baby dolphins are so cute!!
Well, this one day, very bad people came to the ocean where I live and it was terrible. One minute I was happily swimming around with everyone and the next minute there were lots of waves and KABOOMS all around us. KABOOM! KABOOM! It hurt everyone’s ears. I felt the KABOOMS and got really scared. We ran from the noise and ended up in Taiji Cove, trapped by nets! Have YOU ever been scared before? Did you cry? I did. I cried a lot. Even my Mommy and Daddy were scared. When the bad men came I could feel my parents panic. They were swimming around and around, trying to protect me. It was the worst day of my life.
The bad men were trying to capture some of us pretty dolphins and take us away!!
This one dolphin from another family (dolphin families are called a “pod”), jumped the nets! But guess what! He didn’t want to leave his pod there alone with the bad men so he stayed nearby. It was really sad and everyone cried and touched each other, which is like when people hug. I touched my whole body to my mommy’s body and cried so much my eyes got extra red.
If your parents ever watch a movie about us called “The Cove,” you should tell them that they better bring lots of tissues because they will cry, too. The bad men kill all the ugly dolphins. That’s when all grown-up humans cry. It’s terrible.
The bad men liked me a lot because I am pretty and unusual-looking. As you can see, I am white and not grey like everyone else. The bad men didn’t care that I’m blind and deaf and I need my mommy. Actually, all dolphin babies need their mommies, but I especially need mine to get around in the ocean. I tried to get away from the bad men but they hurt my fin and nose and they were too strong for me. They were too strong even for mommy and daddy. The bad men threw a heavy tarp on me and stole me from Taiji Cove!! The bad men kidnapped me! >sniffle< They took me away from my whole pod. They took me away >sniffle< from my home and everyone I love. >WAAAAAAHHHH!!!< I WANT MY MOMMY!!!!! >sniffle sniffle< Sorry. I can’t stop crying. >WAAAHHHH!<
Suddenly I was all alone and so scared. I cried and cried for my mommy and daddy. I didn’t know where I was, but I wasn’t in the ocean anymore.
That was the last time I ever touched my mommy. She looked for me for a long time but she was too sad to live without me. She dove down deep into the water at Taiji Cove & no one ever saw her again. >sniffle sniffle< I miss my mommy and daddy and my family pod so much.
Well, the bad men put me in a tank that was like a big bathtub with other baby dolphins they stole from Taiji Cove. Here’s the tank before I got there. It’s so small compared to the ocean. It’s worse than jail. I can’t swim AT ALL in there.
The bad men told us that if we wanted to eat we had to do stupid tricks for them. Then they tried to feed us smelly dead fish! We NEVER ate dead fish in the ocean. Eww. It was so gross.
Nothing was fresh or smelled good. The bathtub tank was so small and dirty with all the baby dolphins going potty in that little bit of water. We were inside a building and the other dolphins couldn’t even see the sky anymore. Everyone just cried and cried and missed their mommies and families. It was so sad. Did you ever miss your mommy and daddy before? If you did, here’s a big hug for you because I know how it feels and it doesn’t feel very good AT ALL.
The bad men told us that kids like YOU were going to pay them lots and lots of money to come see me and the other kidnapped dolphins in shows, doing those stupid tricks, and they were going to get rich! I couldn’t believe it! Is that true??? Are YOU paying the bad men to steal us baby dolphins so you can come look at us while we suffer and cry in a big city? I sure hope that’s not true. It CAN’T be true! >sniffle sniffle<
Please don’t pay bad men ANY money for kidnapping me! Please don’t do it. I don’t want to be in this stinky dirty bathtub for the rest of my life. Please don’t buy a ticket. >sniffle< Just so you know, I hate eating dead fish, but >sniffle sniffle< if I don’t do tricks I’ll starve. >WAAAAHHH!!!< >sniffle sniffle<. >WAAAHHH!< >sniffle< I just want to go home.
The bad men >sniffle< told me I will NEVER swim in the sea or eat fresh fish again. >sniffle sniffle< They’re so mean. They told me I’ll NEVER be with my mommy again, or my daddy, or anyone in my family. I’m all alone now. All I have left now is YOU, the children of the world, to help me. I’m so scared. My heart hurts so much. >WAAAHHH!< >WAAAHHH!< >WAAAHH!< Please help me!
MolarTron and Sea Shepherd told me that there are some people you can write and they’ll help me and other dolphins. MolarTron said that you have a very special KID-POWER that only kids have! He said you can save me! He told me to tell you that I’m smart and have feelings, just like YOU. MolarTron told me to tell you about my family and how dolphins stick together and love each other forever. Did you know that dolphins breathe air and talk to each other and play with each other, just like you do? We’re mammals, just like YOU! MolarTron also told me to ask you to please tell all your Japanese friends and family about me because they don’t always get the news about dolphins (and whales) in my beautiful country, Japan.
Please write letters and stop buying tickets to dolphin shows. Pretty please? For me? For all the other baby dolphins? There’s a list of addresses at the end. With your help, all of us dolphins can smile again and no one else will have to live in a tiny stinky bathtub inside a building with no sun, eating dead fish, and missing their family pod.
